MONACO : IIe Tournoi International d’Échecs pour Aveugles (TIÉPAM)

After having hosted in 2018 a prestigious tournament for the blind on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Association Echiquéenne pour les Aveugles (AEPA), the Principality of Monaco will once again host the 2nd edition of the International Chess Tournament for the Blind (TIÉPAM), organized by the AEPA in collaboration with the Monegasque Chess Federation, from October 28th to November 1st 2022.

The tournament will gather blind and visually impaired chess players as well as young players without handicap, of less than 1300 Elo from clubs of the region.

In addition to AÉPA members, all blind and visually impaired players are invited to participate, including members of other foreign associations of visually impaired players who are members of the IBCA (International Braille Chess Association).

The tournament will take place at the Stade Louis II, a famous place of Monegasque sport. It will be played in 7 rounds at the rate of 90 minutes with an addition of time of 30 seconds per move.

Second International Chess Tournament for the Blind of Monaco

Dates : From Friday, October 28, 2022 at 14:30 to Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 15:00.

Location : Stade Louis II, Fontvieille-sur-Mer, Principality of Monaco.

Hébergement et restauration :

Marriott Hotel The Gate of Monaco at Cap d’Ail (France) in front of the Stadium.

This tournament, homologated FIDÉ, is organized by the AÉPA (Association des Échecs Pour Aveugles) and the FMÉ (Fédération Monégasque des Échecs). It is reserved for players who are members of the AÉPA (up to date with their membership fee on 01.07.22) or of an IBCA member association as well as for children of the region with less than 1300 Elo points. It is organized according to the Swiss system in seven rounds, Fischer cadence, games of 90mn + increments of 30s, and it is refereed by Mr Dominique Dervieux. The organizers reserve the right to invite two young players from the Monte-Carlo Chess Circle, who participated in the Ist TIÉPAM.

Blind and visually impaired players must bring adapted equipment (game, note-taking device and clock).

Time schedule :

Opening Ceremony : Friday 28.10.22 at 14:30.

Round 1: Friday 28.10.22 after the Opening Ceremony.

Round 2: Saturday 29.10.22 at 09:00.

Round 3: Saturday 29.10.22 at 15:00.

Round 4: Sunday 30.10.22 at 09:00

Round 5 : Monday 31.10.22 at 09:00.

Round 6 : Monday 31.10.22 at 15:00.

Round 7: Tuesday 01.11.22 at 09:00.

Prize-giving ceremony: Tuesday 01.11.22 at the end of the 7th round (around 13:00).

Price :

The TIÉPAM is endowed with prizes, the first three in the general classification, and by category (Elo, age, gender).

Registration fees for full board :

With shared room for two : 300€

With single room : 525€

Without accommodation : 100€

Without accommodation and meals : 40€

If you want to arrive from Thursday 27.10.22 and/or stay until Wednesday 02.11.22, the extra night will be charged 60€ for a double room and 100€ for a single room, without meals. For stays before and after these dates, the rate will be as follows: 84€ for a duo and 151€ for a single room.

Registration closes on October 15, 2022.
